Q: I’m not photogenic and usually hate pictures. How can I possibly get a good headshot?
A: You might be surprised! Feeling non-photogenic is super common, and our photographers hear this all the time. The good news is, our whole process is designed to put you at ease. We crack jokes, adjust poses, and show you previews as we shoot. Most clients walk out saying, “Wow, I actually love how I look!” We’ll coach you into flattering poses and expressions – by the end, you’ll look confident and natural. Trust us, it’s our job to bring out your best (and we haven’t failed yet). Even if you walk in camera-shy, you’ll walk out looking like the capable, friendly pro you are.
Q: What should I wear for my business headshot?
A: Wear something that makes you feel confident and reflects your professional style. Solid colors are usually a safe bet (think blues, greens, burgundy, or neutrals – avoid loud patterns or logos). For a classic business look, a well-fitted blazer or suit jacket over a simple top works great. If business casual is more your vibe, a neat button-down or blouse can do the trick. Make sure your clothes are ironed and lint-free. As for accessories, keep them minimal and not too shiny or distracting. Ultimately, wear an outfit similar to what you’d wear when meeting an important client – you want to look like you on your best work day. And if you can’t decide between two outfits, bring both – we can photograph multiple looks!
Q: Do I need to hire a makeup artist or use any makeup services before my headshot session?
A: It’s completely up to you. Some clients (of all genders) opt to use a professional hair and makeup artist to feel extra polished. Professional makeup can be a nice touch, ensuring your skin looks its best on camera. We can recommend a makeup artist or even arrange one to be on-site if you let us know in advance. That said, makeup is optional. If you do your own, go for a clean, natural look: think matte foundation or powder to reduce shine, and well-groomed hair. Avoid super heavy makeup or dramatic trends – the goal is to look like a polished version of yourself. Remember, our retouching will also handle little things like blemishes or stray hairs, so you’re going to look great regardless.
Q: How long will the headshot photoshoot take, and when will I get my pictures back?
A: The actual photo session is pretty quick – usually about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on how many looks we’re doing. We don’t rush, but we also understand that you have a schedule, so we keep things efficient. After the shoot, we’ll often review the shots with you immediately to pick your favorites. Thanks to our efficient workflow, you’ll receive your final edited images very quickly. In many cases, we deliver final images the same day, 30 minutes before you leave (especially if you only need one or two headshots). For larger group sessions or when extensive editing is required, the turnaround time can be up to 24-48 hours, which is still relatively quick in the photography world. Bottom line: you won’t be left biting your nails for weeks. We know you’re excited to start using your new headshots, and we’ll make sure you can do that ASAP!
Q: Will you come to my office to photograph our whole team?
A: Absolutely, yes. We offer on-site corporate headshot sessions regularly. If you have a team – whether it’s five people or 500 – we can set up our mobile studio at your location and shoot consistent, professional headshots for everyone. This is ideal for companies that want a uniform look for all staff photos or group photos of the leadership team. We provide background options, lights, and everything needed to transform your office hallway into a professional studio. We’ve done headshot days at law firms, tech startups, hospitals – you name it. There is a small travel fee for locations outside central Houston, but we work all over the Greater Houston area (yes, we’ve been to Sugar Land and back). It’s hassle-free for your team and ensures everyone’s headshot matches in style and quality.
Q: Can I get outdoor headshots, or do they have to be in a studio?
A: You can definitely opt for outdoor headshots! While our studio is great for that clean, no-frills backdrop, some clients love an outdoor or environmental portrait for a more relaxed feel. We can shoot at a location of your choice or suggest a spot. Want the Downtown Houston skyline blurred behind you? A lush park near your office? Or perhaps something iconic, like Buffalo Bayou or Discovery Green, as a backdrop? We’re game. Outdoor headshots can convey a bit more personality or tie in with your brand (for example, a chef in front of their restaurant, or an architect with the city skyline behind them). We schedule these at the right time of day for the best light, and we have portable lighting to fill in as needed. So studio or outdoors – the choice is yours. We’ll make either option look fantastic.
Q: What if I need more than one headshot or want to do a branding photography session?
A: Many clients who come for a “business headshot” realize they could use a few different photos – and we’re all about maximizing the value of your session. If you need a variety of images (say a traditional head-and-shoulders shot and some wider, more casual portraits for a personal branding library), just let us know. We can absolutely turn your session into a mini branding photoshoot. This might include different backgrounds, a change of outfit, or even some creative shots of you at work (for example, if you’re a designer, maybe a photo of you with a sketchpad or laptop). These kinds of sessions give you a whole suite of images to use across your website, social media, and marketing materials. It’s a smart way to get a lot of content in one go. We’ll plan it out with you so we capture everything you’re envisioning.
Q: How do I book a headshot session with Pixel Studio Productions?
A: We try to keep booking as easy as the shoot itself. You can contact us through our website or call us directly at (832) 767-1543. We’ll discuss dates and times that work for you and address any questions you may have (such as location and attire). We do offer online booking for specific time slots, and we can often accommodate last-minute requests if you’re in a pinch. A standard individual session can be booked with just a couple of days’ notice (and sometimes on the same day!). For large team sessions, we’ll coordinate with you to find the ideal day to set up at your office. In any case, once you’re booked, all you need to do is show up (or we’ll show up to you) – we’ll handle the rest and make it a great experience.
